Family Established Art

I made this! I am beyond proud of myself. I even got it done BEFORE our 4th anniversary (July 12)!!

Every time I'm on Pinterest, I see something like this. I really had to play with how I wanted this to look because of the length of our last name and the short numbers in our anniversary date. Did I want 7-12-08? 07-12-08? July 12, 2008? Did I want a square to say "Est."? Vertical or horizontal? Color or black & white? This is something you will have to determine for yourself.

Once you decide the look & what it will say, the hard part begins. I'm not kidding. I used Leo Reynolds' Flicker account to pick the images I wanted. He has graciously allowed people to download his pictures for free. Here is the link to just his Letter Collection. Click on it. Do you see why I said the hard part is just beginning?! He has sooo many choices. Here is a link to his Numbers Collection 1. Yes, there is more than one number collection but the one I have linked has what you need for this project. I searched the rest of his Flicker account to find the heart & medallion. I used a medallion to separate our last name & the date, pretty much a space filler.

Once I had picked the images I wanted, I opened up a Word document in the publishing view. I then placed the images where I wanted them, resizing them to 1.64" square (except the hearts). In publishing view, you can make sure that all of your images are lined up & equally spaced out a lot easier. I made the document an 8x10. This way, when I printed it from my computer, I could cut the 8.5x11 piece of cardstock to size and and none of the images would be cut off or off center.

Here is what it looks like in a frame.

I hope this inspires you to make one of your own! Let me know if you do!

Road Trip 2012

Jerome & I have yet to go on a vacation just the two of us since we've been married. Much less a road trip. Of course, we've been taking road trips twice a year since we have became a couple in 2006. However, they are not the "Let's go visit a new city!" or "Let's see this part of the map in person!" road trips. They have been to drive the 518 miles from our dorms/apartments in Stillwater, OK to visit my family in Houston or the reverse: Houston to Tecumseh, OK to see Jerome's family. This trips are always worth the 8 hour drive to see family...always. But my idea of a trip deserving the title "road trip" is the one where we drive to a certain area of the country, check new states off of my "I need to visit all 50 states before I die" list, and go to all of the MLB (major league baseball) parks & DDD (Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives) locations in that area too. (Can you tell I'm Type A and/or slightly OCD?)

Well, this "Road Trip" fits both categories so I'm calling it our Road Trip 2012!! I'm so excited if you can't tell. =) I WILL be taking my camera and using it every day to record everything. This is your warning. haha. You do not have to read every detail of every blog on this trip if you don't want to. I understand. I am mostly going to be doing it to have the memories for Jerome & I. I am also hoping that it will help get me used to using my camera to document everything & keep blogging on a more consistant basis.

Here is a general itinerary of what we plan on doing (mostly for me but you can know if you want):

  • June 8-10 - Visit Oklahoma & family there
    • June 9 - Wedding in Stillwater
  • June 11-13 - St. Louis, Missouri
    • June 12 - Cardinals vs. Chicago White Sox
  • June 13-15 - Kansas City, Missouri/Kansas
    • June 14 - Royals vs. Milwaukee Brewers
  • June 15-17 - Arlington, Texas
    • June 16 - Rangers vs. Houston Astros
This idea of visiting baseball stadiums was a dream of mine & one of Jerome's growing up. I am so thankful that God put us together & that we have some of the same dreams. I cannot wait to spend some alone time with my hubby while starting to check something off of our bucket lists...together.

Here are a few google pics of where we will be going & hope to be going!

Busch Stadium, St. Louis

Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City
Ballpark at Arlington, Arlington Texas
I cannot wait until I have my own pictures that show up in a Google search! Let me know if there is anything we should see/do in these cities!

Work Awards

I love finding other people who are into DIY since I'm on a DIY kick right now. I am so excited to introduce a guest blogger for today's post, the HUBBY!!!! haha. Jerome has spent the last week working really hard on his own DIY project. I took photo evidence of his project and now he has agreed to share!

So...um...I am new to this but I will try. I recently, this past week, had an award show that was football-themed at work for the people I work with. We wanted to honor our top physical/occupational/speech therapists at work and this was a way to do it.  I came up with these awards weeks before hand and constructed hand made trophies to go along with a slideshow. It was fun to do and they both turned out great. (There was a lot of hot glue involved.)

-Jerome

Thanks honey! What Jerome failed to mention is that he also got up at 5:30 on the day of the awards to grill 54 hamburgers and 36 hot dogs. He loves his job! =)
